Sunday Levity: Banning inter-generational romance

The onward march of competitive intolerance (absurdity, actually)

This is an archived blog post from The Acorn.

Congress party members in Uttar Pradesh state are scared. That partly explains why they are calling for a ban on an Amitabh Bachchan movie. Not merely because Bachchan is joined at the hips with the Samajwadi Party’s Amar Singh, but because the movie is against, well, Indian culture.

Director Ram Gopal Varma’s controversy-ridden Nishabd has crash-landed into yet another row and this time it’s the Congress which is playing spoilt sport.

The Congress in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday demanded a ban on Varma’s latest release in which superstar Amitabh Bachchan romances Jiah Khan, who is more than 40 years younger to him.

Congress Spokesman Pervez Ahmed Khan told PTI that the film is against Indian culture and the screening should be banned immediately. [CNN-IBN]Strange that they should complain about this movie when Sexy Sam passed the Uttar Pradesh Congress party’s role model of Indian culture” test.
