The man who ran Pakistan’s Akora Khattak madrassa — the Taliban’s alma mater — is now a senator, and a member of its foreign affairs committee. And this is what he told the visiting group of separatists from the Kashmir valley.
Senator Samiul Haq on Tuesday vowed to support jihad in Kashmir regardless of the stance the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) adopted. He made the comments during a meeting between APHC leaders and the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs. The senator, who leads his own faction of the Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam, said there was no distinction between Afghan jihad and Kashmir jihad. He said that ‘freedom loving’ jihadi outfits like Harkatul Mujahideen, Harkatul Ansar and Jaish Mohammad made a lot of sacrifices for the Kashmir freedom struggle. [DT]
