Sapargali Aubakirov, deputy head of the central Asian republic’s mission in Islamabad, was found lying in a pool of blood at his house in the capital on Wednesday with a single gunshot wound to the head.Police had no immediate clues about a motive of the killers, but they have said there were no signs of a break-in. The diplomat was found sprawled on his sofa with critical head injuries on Wednesday… Empty bottles of liquor and four partly-eaten hamburgers were discovered lying near Aubakirov, as well as a single empty bullet casing, police have said. The weapon used in the shooting has not been recovered, police added. [Dawn]
…those arrested were Chinese nationals and identified as Hassan s/o Abdul Hamid and Mohammad Ibrahim s/o Abdullah. [The News/Jang]
The police excludes a possibility of a suicide or crime connected with a commerce competition, as the diplomat wasn’t engaged into the commerce. And the Pakistani authorities and (the Kazakh) embassy also exclude a political reason of a crime. [Khabar Information Agency]
For their part, Pakistani authorities have ruled out terrorism as a cause, and the Kazakhs have ruled out commercial and political motives. Chinese authorities have not had their turn to rule something out yet.
The details so far suggest that it is the work of professionals, just as it was in the other case. In September 2004, a Kazakh diplomat was shot dead in Moscow.
