Chechen rebels trained and funded in Pakistan

Moral and diplomatic’ support carried too far

President Putin could designate a special envoy to visit Pakistan later this month to take up the issue of continuing sanctuary and financial support for Chechen rebels in Pakistan.

While Musharraf is not likely to find himself Putin’s frontline ally’ in the war against terrorism, Pakistan will come under greater Russian pressure in the coming months, especially if any of the recent acts of Chechen terrorism are directly linked back to Pakistan.
