India-Pakistan bilateral trade doubled last year

Trade volume doubles, but Pakistan’s trade deficit triples

This is an archived blog post from The Acorn.

The Dawn reports that bilateral trade volumes doubled to $476 million, with India recording a trade surplus of about $290 million. The article argues that with a much larger market, the trade balance must ideally be in Pakistan’s favour. And this is in spite of India according MFN status to Pakistan but Pakistan refusing to reciprocate.

If only most of the subcontinent’s debates (and comparisons) shift to such matters.
