Commandos in Parliament

or How to scare MPs

This is an archived blog post from The Acorn.

Pakistani members of parliament had a shock of their lives when they arrived for work and found armed commandos (from Gen Musharraf’s elite Special Security Group) in numbers. Many thought that there was yet another coup in progress.

It appears that they were there to protect another SSG commando, Gen Musharraf, who had decided to visit his chambers in parliament to better interact with the MPs. Considering that his not very charitable opinion of politicians is rather well known, this explanation would have sounded as unlikely as the Information Minister’s statement that the commandos were called in due to a terrorist threat to parliament.
