Hamfisted Saudi foreign labour policy

With a stroke of the pen, the Saudi government has banned foreigners from working in the jewellery industry. Sooner or later, Saudi women are going to revolt against shoddy jewellery created by their male compatriots. Or maybe, drive to or import well crafted work from the Dubai souks.

Its Saudisation process is doomed to fail unless accompanied by modernisation. Chasing out the foreign workers is only going to make a bad situation worse. It should learn from Bahrain and the UAE who have decided that opening up is a better solution.
