Janus(mythology)This is an archived blog post from The Acorn.
In Roman Mythology, Janus was the god of gates, doors, beginnings, endings and doorways. The month of January was named for him. He was usually depicted as Janus Geminus (twin Janus) or Bifrons, with two faces looking in opposite directions. In some places he was Janus Quadrifrons (the four-faced). He was associated with Etruscan Ani.
His two faces (originally, one was always bearded, one clean-shaven; later both bearded) originally represented the sun and the moon. He was usually depicted with a key. Janus head is a popular phrase for deception, that is, when action does not match speech.[Wikipedia]Here’s this from the schizophrenic house of Mr Musharraf.
On the day when the foreign affairs mandarins of India and Pakistan announced a time-table for peace talks, the notable jehadi and al-Qaeda affiliate Hafiz Saeed of Lashkat-e-Taiba made a public appearance at an upmarket Islamabad shopping mall (Via Robert Spencer’s Jihad Watch)
Pakistani officials say they have no grounds to charge him because he is officially no longer the head of Lashkar-e-Taiba. Two weeks before the group was banned, Saeed formed a new organization, the Jamaat ul Dawa, a device employed by several of the extremist groups outlawed by Musharraf that enabled them to continue operating.[KRT Wire]
Its funny how they remember to apply the letter of the law to protect rather sinister gentlemen, while no such pleasantries are necessary for their political opponents. Benazir Bhutto’s husband is close to beating Nelson Mandela’s record for the longest time in prison, closely followed by Anwar Ibrahim in Malaysia. But Musharraf in Pakistan thinks Hafiz Saeed has committed no crime, as does Abdullah Badawi in Malaysia who is happy to let BSA Tahir enjoy his stay in Malaysia. (via Aiseh Man)
