Escaped suspect was a Pakistani airman

He was also a closet jihadi

The emphasis is on the words ‘low-ranking’. Mushtaq Ahmed was a low-ranking member of the Pakistani Air Force, and simultaneously of the Jaish-e-Mohammed, a jihadi outfit. But he is suspected to have played a ‘key role’ in the attempt to assassinate Gen Musharraf in December 2004. Sentenced to death (by a military court) on November 21st, he escaped soon after.

The Pakistani authorities are now making a big deal out of hunting for the escaped airman. But if the Jaish-e-Mohammed (or Harkat ul Jihad al Alami) is indeed implicated in the case, why not arrest its leaders who remain very much free men?
