Both the building and the institution of the century-old Islamia High School were part of Kashmir’s cultural heritage. Destroying the school (or the Charar-e-Sharif shrine a few years ago) puts the jehadi terrorists on the same plane as the Taliban. It may be time for the incoming chief of the Hurriyat, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, against whom the jihadis have intensified their campaign, to come out against jihadi terrorism with more sincerity, courage and conviction.
“I believe it is the handiwork of the same forces who eliminated my uncle Moulvi Mushtaq. We know them closely and shall expose them shortly,” said Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. [Daily Times]
It is strange that despite repeated setbacks the Moulvi Abbas Ansari faction of the Hurriyat Conference is not yet prepared to call a spade a spade. Having once declared in connection with another similar incident that it will name the culprits it appears to have again withdrawn into the familiar mould of beating about the bush. Its reaction to this incident that it is ‘a deep-rooted intrigue against Kashmiri Muslims’ will not leave anybody wiser about the identity of the hoodlums behind it. How does it expect the others to indulge in ‘serious application of mind so that the nefarious designs of these anti-national elements are defeated at every level’ when it is itself not equal to the task of raising a finger towards the saboteurs?
