Bihar - emerging terrorist haven

Moving beyond ordinary crime

This is an archived blog post from The Acorn.

Long years of Laloo Raj have not only made Bihar a hotbed of crime and corruption, but also of terrorism. It appears that Nepal’s Maoist rebels take advantage of the Bihar’s general lawlessness to procure arms and seek shelter. Unfortunately now that Laloo Prasad Yadav’s political hands have been strengthened, it may be a while before Bihar is cleaned up.

Sources said that the Maoists admitted during interrogation that they were in Bihar to purchase sophisticated firearms from two banned ultra-left organisations, the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) and the Peoples’ War (Group). But there is still no proof that Nepalese Maoists have been participating in subversive operations being carried out in Bihar,” Bihar’s IG (Administration) Neelmani said. [Himalayan Times]

Bihar needs to be fixed before the likes of al Qaeda begin to exploit its attractiveness.
