Foreign Direct Investment in India - Sources and Destinations

Maharashtra, Delhi and Tamil Nadu were the top three destinations for foreign investors, with Karnataka in a close fourth place. The United States was by far the largest investor in India, followed by Mauritius, UK and Japan. Mauritius’ tax-treaty with India makes it a good proxy destination for global investors. © 2004.
