Maoist guerillas are calling for UN intervention in Nepal. Getting the UN involved will only elevate that country’s domestic crisis by bringing in external actors with vested interests of their own. India has rightly opposed a UN role in Nepal - but unless it plays a more proactive role to end the crisis, India will not be able to keep outside interests from entering the scene. With so many pressing issues crowding the new government’s foreign policy table, Nepal may not be accorded the priority it deserves. India must bear down on King Gyanendra to restore parliamentary democracy as soon as possible.{|<} This is an archived blog post from The Acorn.
