Is Europe our partner in the War on Terror

Portugal has jailed Abu Salem for four and a half years for visa irregularities, and it is yet to decide on India’s request for extradition even after the Indian government promised to waive his execution if found guilty.

This is an archived blog post from The Acorn.

While there is no extradition treaty between Portugal and India, this arrest has to be seen in the context on the War on Terror. Abu Salem and Dawood Ibrahim are wanted for their acts of terror, not ordinary crime.

Europe is also on al Qaeda’s hit list. It is in Portugal’s interest to cooperate with India in the long battle against the terrorists. A real partnership is a two-way street and Europe must do its part.
